PNGSDP continued its support of the Programs of ‘Leadership PNG’ with further funding towards the development of a leadership culture, through learning programs to enhance the skills of emerging and current leaders. Support also was geared towards enhancing the knowledge of youths to acquire skills in government and governance, advocacy and political participation, anti-corruption and human rights. This will enable an increase in youth empowerment and skills in politics and governance process. Through PNGSDP's funding and the efforts of project partners a number of school related construction projects were completed, including the Female Dormitory at the Nazarene College of Nursing at Kudjip, and the relocation and construction of four classroom buildings at the Injed Primary School in Lai Valley, Southern Highlands Province. Additional projects were: construction of a new double storey classroom at Tente Primary School in Mendi (United Church Highlands Region); a girls' dormitory at the Don Bosco Technical Secondary School in Vanimo, Sandaun Province; the female dormitory at Don Bosco Technological Institute, Taurama Road in Port Moresby; St Mary's Vocational school, at Mingende, Simbu Province; a dormitory at the Notre Dame Girls Secondary School; and support to the provision of educational leadership for the senior education officers of the Catholic Education agency, in Bougainville. At total of 8 projects were approved in 2008 for completion in 2009. Thirty five primary schools from Baiyer Lumusa (WHP), Kompiam (Enga) and Telefomin (Sandaun) are now benefiting from the successful completion of the procurement and installation of radio communications equipment for the Baptist Primary School Communications Capacity Building [Partner: Mt Hagen Baptist Church]. |
