The Gihamu community live in the rugged Western Highlands of PNG. To implement the Gihamu water project, PNGSDP partnered with the Baptist Union of PNG and the local community. The project involved the construction of a water supply system which will provide easy access to clean and safe water for drinking and general use, to a community of 8,000 people. The total sum allocated to the project by PNGSDP was K250, 000. The village communities provided the land and labour as part of their investment into the project. Training workshops on community health and water hygiene are part of the process to educate villagers on how to use their resources wisely to ensure sustainability for the future.
